Looks almost martial: the Berckemeyer design during the test on the IJsselmeer
Made of aluminium, with an e-hybrid drive and full of other ideas, the Viator Explorer 42 DS is an exciting addition to the market. But how does it sail? Download the test in PDF format

With a ship of this type with a lot of equipment and a complex drive system, there is a latent concern that it will become too heavy and then no longer sail well. Not so with the "Volt", the name of the test boat. Thanks to the carbon mast and sails, rod rig and fine fittings and probably also thanks to 2.5 tonnes of ballast on the lowered, 2.80 metre deep keel, even the light conditions on the test day were no problem. Sailing fun on an Explorer? It's possible.

There were also many attractive practical details on and below deck waiting to be explored by the tester. The workmanship was consistently good and the layout consistent. If you want to find out more about the Viator Explorer 42 DS, we recommend reading issue 9/2021 of YACHT. It contains the test on eight pages
